Looking to your competitors can quickly tell you what your customers want to see more (or less) of. If one of your competitors is getting loads of engagement on social media, take a moment to analyse their profile and see what’s working for them.

You can add your competitors to the ‘pages to watch’ section on Facebook, or to a private Twitter list to make it easy to watch them.

Why not look at 3 of your competitors social media profiles and take note of the following:

  • The content they post
  • Who they follow
  • Who’s following them
  • How often they post
  • What time of the day they post
  • What kind of headlines they use in their posts
  • Their most popular posts
  • The images they post
  • And who they’re tagging in

Remember that your customers still want you to be unique, so don’t copy your competitors, but do incorporate things that are working well into your own strategy. For example, if they post more images than you and get great engagement, try creating more of your own images and see if your engagement increases.
