Google reviews are a powerful way of boosting your online reputation and supporting your business being found online as they bolster SEO ranking.
Now that you have set up your business on Google, how do you go about gathering these reviews from your customers?
Step 1: Deliver an excellent customer experience
The first step to gaining more positive reviews for your business is to ensure that your customer experience warrants that five-star rating. Focusing on outstanding customer service is the best way to create a positive impression, which can then be translated into a great online review.
Step 2: Be proactive about requesting reviews
While some customers will take it upon themselves to leave a review for your business without being prompted, others won’t, so it’s important that you get into the habit of always requesting a review from your customers. Include the request as part of the online sales transaction, or if in store, keep a tablet available to take online reviews from customers there and then.
Step 3: Tell your customer how they can leave you a review.
Customers can search for you on Google and click on the ‘reviews’ link followed by ‘write a review’. To leave a review, your customers must be signed in to a Google account. If they aren’t already signed in when they try to leave a Google review, they’ll be asked to do so. If a customer does not have a Google account - direct them to Facebook to leave a review there instead!
Step 4: Make a timely response to your Google reviews:
- Log in to Google My Business
- Select the relevant location
- Go to reviews
- Scroll to the review you wish to comment on and click ‘Respond’
Keep in mind your response will be public and will appear below the original review
The standard rules of reputation management apply here. Be polite in your response and avoid getting into an argument or being critical of your customer.
Aim to keep your response short, succinct and positive and be sure to leave your reply in a timely manner.
Responding to reviews is now more important than ever, as reviewers now receive an email notification to let them know that their reply has been responded to.
