Adding a Facebook pixel to your website means you can track visitors to your website and then retarget them with Facebook and Instagram ads. It sounds complicated but we've made it simple for you.

The Facebook pixel is a piece of code that you put on your website that allows you to measure the effectiveness of your Facebook advertising by understanding the actions people take on your website. The data collected on your pixel will help your advertising to be more effective.

How to create a Facebook pixel for your business and how to add it to your website

  1. In Business Manager, open ‘Page Settings’ and scroll until you see ‘Data sources’. There you will see ‘Pixels’ listed.

  2. Click the blue button and it will populate with your business manager name. You can overwrite this and give it a name of your choice.

  3. If your website is hosted by one of the more common platforms, such as WordPress, Shopify or Squarespace, it should be a straightforward process to add your URL and click continue, where you should see options to select your platform and guide you through the steps to help you install it automatically to your website.

  4. If you use a less common platform, you may need a bespoke approach. Facebook will confirm the pixel code to you, which you can pass to your web developer (or add it yourself if you feel confident. You will be given instructions from Facebook on how to install it and where it should go on your website.)

  5. Once you have gone through that process, your pixel name will show in the list - there should be a small circle next to your pixel name, which will turn green once the pixel is installed and active.

  6. You will then need to assign your pixel to your ad account. In ‘Assets’, find your account and click Add.

  7. Add yourself and any others helping manage your advertising to your pixel. Click on ‘Add People’ then find the people you want to add in the list. You can assign ‘view’ access or ‘manage pixel’; choose the level you want and click Assign.

  8. You can also delete your assets connected to your pixel, or people assigned to your ad account, using the delete button.

  9. Your pixel should now be installed and ready to go.
