Social media is all about building relationships, and as with relationships in real life, they take time to grow and develop into something wonderful.

You have to nurture your audience by following the same principles you would when starting a new relationship - be a good listener, be authentic, be consistent, and remember it’s not all about you.

On Twitter look through your notifications and connect with new followers by sending them a personalised message, here are some examples:

‘Hey @follower - thanks for following us! We think you’ll love the new <ITEM> we have in (link to product) What do you think?’

'@follower thanks for the follow! We’d love your opinion on our next event <EVENT NAME> (link to event), what do you think?'

You also need to make sure you're engaging with other people's posts. This will show them that you care what they have to say - always a great way to start a relationship.

Maybe* makes it really easy for you to manage your Twitter replies and mentions. You can also use Maybe* to find other businesses' content you want to engage with. See how you can manage your Twitter engagement with Maybe*.
